چکیده

The so-called ”acoustic revival mechanism” of core-collapse supernova proposed recently by the Arizona group is an interesting new possibility. Aiming to understand the elementary processes involved in the mechanism, we have calculated the eigen frequencies and eigen functions for the g-mode oscillations of a non-rotating proto neutron star. The g-modes have relatively small eigen frequencies. Since there is a convective region inside the proto neutron star, the eigen functions are confined either to the exterior or interior of this evanescent region although some fraction of eigen functions penetrates it because of their long wave lengths. The possible excitation of these modes by the standing accretion shock instability, or SASI, is discussed based on these eigen functions. Stability of Standing Accretion Shocks, with an Eye toward Core Collapse Supernovae

We examine the stability of standing, spherical accretion shocks. Accretion shocks arise in core collapse supernovae (the focus of this paper), star formation, and accreting white dwarfs and neutron stars. We present a simple analytic model and use timedependent hydrodynamics simulations to show that this solution is stable to radial perturbations. In two dimensions we show that small perturbat...

A New Multi-dimensional General Relativistic Neutrino Hydrodynamics Code of Core-collapse Supernovae Iii. Gravitational Wave Signals from Supernova Explosion Models

We present a detailed theoretical analysis of the gravitational-wave (GW) signal of the post-bounce evolution of core-collapse supernovae (SNe), employing for the first time relativistic, two-dimensional (2D) explosion models with multi-group, three-flavor neutrino transport based on the ray-by-ray-plus approximation. The waveforms reflect the accelerated mass motions associated with the charac...

Late-Time Convection in the Collapse of a 23 Solar Mass Star

The results of a 3-dimensional SNSPH simulation of the core collapse of a 23M⊙ star are presented. This simulation did not launch an explosion until over 600ms after collapse, allowing an ideal opportunity to study the evolution and structure of the convection below the accretion shock to late times. This late-time convection allows us to study several of the recent claims in the literature abo...

Stability of a Spherical Accretion Shock with Nuclear Dissociation

We examine the stability of a standing shock wave within a spherical accretion flow onto a gravitating star, in the context of core-collapse supernova explosions. Our focus is on the effect of nuclear dissociation below the shock on the linear growth, and non-linear saturation, of non-radial oscillations of the shocked fluid. We combine two-dimensional, time-dependent hydrodynamic simulations u...

Nonlinear Development of the R Mode Instability and the Maximum Rotation Rate of Neutron Stars

We describe how the nonlinear development of the R-mode instability of neutron stars influences spin up to millisecond periods via accretion. When nearly resonant interactions of the l = m = 2 R-mode with pairs of ”daughter modes” are included, the R-mode saturates at the lowest amplitude which leads to significant excitation of a pair of modes. The lower bound for this threshold amplitude is p...
